Today in class I spent some time exploring social media and social change.
I read an article online by Sarah Perez that gives examples on what social change is.
Social change is caused by media. Media outputs such as twitter and facebook give us the oppertunity to get our unheard voice-heard.
Social media can be used with almost everything lately.
The pope can tweet about his next visit to Canada.
The president of the U.S can talk about the economy.
Your aunt can tell people what sauce she used for that thanksgiving dinner that turned out delicious.
I can tell you about how much I like music.
In 2010, most of us use social media for irrelevant issues like a bad hair day.
With enough support(or followers), you can turn those posts into a social movement.
Social movement=social change.
Next time you status something, remind yourself that others are going to read this and have a thought or two.
If we all tweeted about something worthy to more than just the readers, we can save lives, build homes, find cures.
Instead of telling facebook that you hate taking bus rides with dirty looking poeople, think about why that person is dirty.
They could be homeless,unemployed etc,etc..
Who gives a shit if you dont like weird people: NO ONE.
Who gives a shit if you want people to donate $1 to your local shelter: A lot of people.
This blog post is an example of social change.
Instead of the usual entertainment post, I'm talking about how we could help out others.
That is what social change is.

Now that I got that out there, it's time to talk about something interesting that I discovered from that article that I mentioned above: posornot.com
Who knew you could use social media to shed light on HIV and getting tested?
The site offers two things: emotion and a game.
Check it out,
you might have fun figuring out if certain people are HIV positive or negative.
It shows you a picture of a person, and you have to guess if he or she is HIV positive or not.
If they arent, you feel good.
If they are, you fee bad.
That site moved me and made me think about my life.

There we go, another example of what social media can do.
All in all, social media and social change deals with any and everything.
If you dont like it then it sucks to be you because I believe it's only going to continue to grow!
